I was born and grew up in Sydney, Australia, to a British mom and South African dad. My whole life I’ve been defined as a ‘third culture kid’ (someone who grew up in a culture different to that of their parents), but I didn’t start to feel the implications of that until I moved to the UK in 2014.
This set of risograph printed posters titled ‘I Didn’t Realise’ each depict a situation I encountered upon moving to the UK that I didn’t realise would be different to back home in Australia. I wanted the posters to comedically inform people that a lot of the time, the most significant culture shocks are the ones you wouldn’t expect, the ones hiding in the mundane every day.
