Growing up, my Omi (grandmother) lived in South Africa, whilst I grew up in Australia. Seeing as she was so far away, I never knew her physically; our relationship existed entirely through cards and Skype calls plugged into the TV. I always hoped that I’d get to meet her in person one day, but unfortunately, she passed away very suddenly in 2017, before I ever got that chance.
This short video, titled ‘Slaap Lekker Omi’ (meaning ‘Sleep Well Omi’ in Afrikaans), is an exploration of the feelings I held onto for a long time after her passing, and acts as my own way of saying goodbye.
